This Pig Found In South San Francisco Needs A Home

Do you need a new pet? How about a best friend? This pig could fulfill all your needs!

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- A small, female pig is available for adoption Monday after being found wandering the streets of South San Francisco. The Peninsula Humane Society said a Good Samaritan brought Vivienne into the shelter after she was found May 20 roaming the intersection of El Camino Real and Spruce streets.

β€œHow this little pig came to be roaming the streets in South San Francisco is a complete mystery to us,” said the nonprofit's communications manager Buffy Martin Tarbox. β€œWe are grateful she was found and brought to our shelter where she is safe and being well cared for. No one has come forward to claim her, so she’s now available for adoption.”

Given the name Vivienne by staff, the pig currently weighs about 24 pounds. Her age is unknown, but adopters should be aware that Vivienne may continue to grow.

β€œThis is actually the second pig we’ve had up for adoption so far this year, which is a record for us,” Tarbox said. β€œVivienne is very friendly and will make a wonderful pet for someone who has the space she’ll need to thrive. She will only be adopted to people committed to keeping her as a pet and not a source of food.”

Pigs can live an average of 12 to 18 years. Their diet consists of pig pellets, fresh vegetables and alfalfa hay.
