Improvement Association Considers New Trees, New Trash Cans, New Mission

Among the items on the agenda for the Studio City Improvement Association on Monday is a purchase of new trash cans and increased trash service, adding limited security service and a redefining of the group’s mission statement.
Art Ginsburg of Art’s Deli is bringing up the idea of redefining the group’s mission statement.
There is a proposal from the Million Trees Project that would allow new trees for free at 36 locations and the BID noted that some businesses do not want new trees that could block their signage.

The Studio City Improvement Association monitors the money spent for the Studio City Business Improvement District, which will be expiring in 2014. The local BIG started in 1996 with a five-year agreement with the city, and another five-year term was adopted in 2005 and again in 2009.
Total income of the bid in 2012 was approximately $258,000 from the city tax base and another $5,000 in grant money. Expenses for the year totaled $331,000, including approximately $161,000 on maintenance in the area, $59,000 for payroll and $57,000 on the alley construction.

Among the expenses that the BID recently approved is for The Trimming Land Company to trim 47 Chinese Pistache trees in the BID area for $3,337.
Meetings to the BID are opened to the public, and are held every two months.
