Petition Drive Asks for Weddington Golf Course to Remain Open Space [Video]

Patty Kirby said she is passionate about saving open space near the Los Angeles River.

She is campaigning to drum up 5,000 signatures to keep Weddington Tennis and Golf Center to remain 100 percent open space. She was speaking last week to a group fo 75 people at a Neighborhood Watch meeting at the Studio City Rec Center.

"We are concerned that there are rumors that the property has been sold to someone outside the area, who won't care so much about the community concerns," Kirby said.

Patch is trying to confirm or deny those rumors with the Weddington family, stay tuned.

Meanwhile, they are trying to establish the Los Angeles River Natural Park and asking for help by clicking here to sign. 

For more than half a century, the property at Weddington Golf & Tennis (on Whitesett Avenue between Coldwater Canyon and Laurel Canyon) has been a regional destination and owned by a local family.

"If current building plans are approved, this open space will be lost forever," Kirby said. "The LA River Natural Park is a gift that will be treasured for generations. Developers want to put 200 condominiums and 635 parking spaces on this last remaining 16 acres of open space in the San Fernando Valley on the Los Angeles River."
