Six-Car Crash on 405 Sends Four to Hospital in Middle of the Night

At first, all lanes of the northbound San Diego Freeway were closed south of the Ventura Freeway connector.

A six-car crash sent at least four people to hospitals with major injuries this morning and shut down the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Sherman Oaks for a time, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The accident was reported on the northbound freeway south of the connector to the Ventura (101) Freeway at 1:47 a.m., said CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos. Four people were transported to hospitals with major injuries, he said.

All lanes of the northbound San Diego Freeway were initially closed south of the Ventura Freeway connector. The far right lane was reopened at 3 a.m. and the next lane over was reopened a short time later. The remaining northbound San Diego Freeway lanes were reopened at 5:23 a.m., according to the CHP.

The cause of the incident remained under investigation, Villalobos said.
