Earthquake Rattles RivCo Awake Monday: Did You Feel It?
The temblor measured 3.1, with an epicenter near Anza.
ANZA, CA — A magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported near Anza in Riverside County Monday at 3:20 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake was felt by residents of Temecula, Murrieta, Hemet, Palm Desert, Indio, and Palm Springs, who entered their experience in the USGS's Did You Feel It? database. Residents of Oceanside and San Diego also reported feeling the temblor. It was centered southeast of the Cahuilla Reservation and Santa Rosa Reservation, about 16.5 miles southwest of La Quinta and 17.4 miles southwest of Palm Desert.
It was about 7 miles deep. It was centered 17.6 miles southwest of Rancho Mirage. Initial reports from the USGS stated the quake was a 3.3, however it was later downgraded to 3.1 magnitude event.
