Magnitude 4.2 Earthquake Strikes Near Palomar Observatory

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — A magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck near the Riverside County/San Diego County line Friday, but there were no immediate reports of serious injuries or damage.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the temblor hit at 6:16 p.m. approximately three miles northwest of Palomar Observatory.

Light shaking was felt as far away as Riverside, according to the USGS.

The quake was initially reported by the USGS as a magnitude 4.5 but was downgraded to 4.2.

Palomar Observatory is about a 37-mile drive from downtown Temecula.
