TEMECULA, CA — Renée Zellweger and her significant other, Ant Anstead, spent a Saturday in Temecula celebrating a friend's birthday and visited the best of what the valley has to offer, thanks to a personal tour from Grapeline Wine Tours.

Zellweger wore a casual jacket and her alma mater, University of Texas, baseball cap during the day. Anstead appeared in his typical black t-shirt and jeans. They looked like anyone else out celebrating on a Saturday in the Southern California wine country.

General manager Krystal Aponte spoke with Patch about their tour, driven by longtime tour guide Mike Miles.

The couple joined about a dozen friends to celebrate a birthday sipping wine and socializing on the tour. The famous pair's names didn't come up when the reservation was established, and they seemed to enjoy anonymity at the start.

It wasn't until the tour that someone told Miles whom he was driving. "A guest pulled him aside and asked him if he knew who they were," she said.

The famous couple, who are beginning to be seen together more frequently, was considered approachable and engaging according to reports from the day. They even took the time to snap a selfie with their driver and sign autographs for other wine tasters during the day.

Miles has been with Grapeline Wine Tours for more than 18 years, according to Aponte. Like most of their drivers, he is well-versed in valley wine country knowledge and provides an entertaining and educational trip through the vines.

Though he was unaware at first who Zellweger and Anstead were, he still gave them the same first-class service the tour company offers all guests, Aponte said. "We just do what we do!"

Where Did Zellweger And Anstead Go In Temecula's Wine Country?

The group's private wine tasting tour visited three wineries and experience lunch.

They started with a cellar tasting at Wiens Family Cellars where they sampled a library flight tasting in the private cellar room. Library flights showcase the differences in the same varietal from one year to another. It's a unique learning opportunity for those who wish to expand their knowledge of wine.

After Wiens, the private tour escorted Zelleweger, Anstead and friends to lunch at Pinnacle Restaurant at Falkner Winery.

The restaurant, situated on a hill above Calle Contento, features broad windows overlooking the winter grapevines. It's a beautiful backdrop for a midday meal.

Next, the group visited the relaxed open-air back patio at Carter Estate Winery. A part of South Coast Winery, the estate is known for high-end reds and méthode champenoise wines. It is one of only two wineries in the valley that make the classic champagne-style fermented wine.

The group finished its tour with a premium tasting at Leoness Cellars.

Overlooking an array of mountains along the De Portola Wine Trail, Leoness Cellars offers vineyard and mountain views and offers several highly rated wines. It was an ideal way to end the day.

Their private tour was arranged by Grapelines Wine Tours specialist Lori Campbell, according to Aponte.

"She finds out what guests want and puts it all together," Aponte said.

Celebrity or not, anyone can experience the same private tasting experience through Grapeline.

Each Grapeline Wine Tour is unique. The base rate for a private group tasting is $189 per person. It includes transportation, lunch and all tastings. Guests only need to show up and enjoy.

"The Grapeline does the same type of tasting experience for everyone, whether you are a celebrity or not," Aponte said. "It depends on whether you want to learn about wine or have fun."
