Temecula Area Fire Under Investigation

The fire scorched part of a field, officials said.

TEMECULA, CA — A brush fire broke out Thursday in a field just east of Temecula, scorching nearly an acre before crews got it under control. The non-injury blaze was reported at 12:55 p.m. in the area of Anza Road and Vino Way, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

A battalion chief at the scene said that flames were moving slowly away from homes amid light winds when engine crews reached the location. A Cal Fire water-dropping helicopter was summoned from Hemet-Ryan Airport to make several drops on the flames, enabling fire personnel to completely encircle the brusher by 1:25 p.m.

Crews were expected to remain at the scene until 3 p.m., mopping up.
