Here are five things happening in Temecula this week.

TEMECULA, CA — Here are five things to know in Temecula this week. We hope it's a good one for all!

1. Thousands of visitors are expected in town for the 40th annual Temecula Valley Balloon And Wine Festival that begins Friday at Lake Skinner Recreation Area. In addition to hot air balloon rides, there will be outdoor concerts, wine tastings and other entertainment. Big names scheduled to perform include REO Speedwagon, Night Ranger, John Waite, Brad Paisley, George Shingleton, Sara Evans, Scott McCreery and The English Beat. Get directions and ticket information here.

2. On Wednesday, the Temecula Planning Commission will discuss a proposed new drive-thru coffee shop in the old Banner Bank building at 27425 Ynez Road. On June 29, 2022, Maikel Faragalla, submitted a planning application to the city for modifications to the existing bank building so that a coffee shop could operate, and then on March 28, 2023, he applied to allow for a drive-thru at the site. Wednesday's 6 p.m. Planning Commission meeting takes place in City Council Chambers at 41000 Main Street. See the full meeting agenda here.

3. With warmer spring weather, many cyclists — of all ages and fitness levels — are taking to roads across Temecula. With the rising popularity of ebikes, some commuters are even ditching their cars and trucks in order to ride. This means increased road sharing, and the Riverside County Sheriff's Department is urging everyone to "look out for one another" this May, which happens to be National Bicycle Safety Month. To ensure the safety of everyone on local roadways, the sheriff's department is conducting traffic safety operations in various parts of the county throughout the month. 4. Temecula Valley Wine Country and nearby De Luz offer stunning views and amazing properties complete with vineyards. Take a look inside three estates available for sale in the region that Patch editor Ashley Ludwig is dreaming about.
