UC Riverside Prof Put Back On Governor's Anti-Cancer Committee
The local man is a toxicologist who teaches in the UCR Department of Molecular, Cell & Systems Biology.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A UC Riverside professor was reappointed by Gov. Jerry Brown Wednesday to serve another year-long term on the Carcinogen Identification Committee.
David A. Eastmond has been on the 10-member advisory panel since 1999.
Eastmond, a toxicologist who teaches in the UCR Department of Molecular, Cell & Systems Biology, has conducted research on the environmental impacts of benzene, a widely used industrial chemical, as well as other fungicides.

As a member of the Carcinogen Identification Committee, he and his colleagues meet at least once a year and make recommendations to the governor and attorney general regarding what chemicals to add to the Proposition 65 list of state-regulated products likely to cause cancer. The list is updated and published annually.
The appointment of Eastmond, a registered Democrat, is not subject to Senate approval. Committee members are not compensated for their service.
