2 dead, 3 Sickened By Fentanyl Overdoses In Union City In 24 Hours: PD
The Union City Police Department is sounding the alarm to prevent more overdoses.

UNION CITY, CA —Police in Union City said Wednesday that the department has responded to five suspected fentanyl overdoses in a 24 hour period, two of which were fatal.
On Tuesday morning, police responded to the area of Medallion Drive and Whipple Road for a report of an unresponsive person. Life-saving measures were taken and the person was transported to the hospital, where they later died. Fentanyl is suspected in the death.
On Tuesday evening, first responders arrived near the Hayward-Union City border for another unresponsive person who was cold to the touch. The person was 17 years old and was declared deceased. Medical personnel then discovered a second unresponsive person nearby who they managed to revive and take to the hospital. Police said signs of the use of narcotics were found near both people.

Early Wednesday morning, another report came in of an unresponsive person "gasping for air" in a restroom in the 33000 block of Western Avenue. The Alameda County Fire Department responded to the call and revived the person with Narcan, which reverses the effects of overdoses. The person was stabilized and taken to the hospital.
Shortly after that, Union City police said another unresponsive person was reported in a vehicle in the parking lot of the same property. Police and fire again administered Narcan and the person was revived and taken to the hospital. Suspected fentanyl was found inside the vehicle.

"The Union City Police Department recognizes this recent trend and wants to bring awareness to help prevent additional incidents from occurring," the department said Wednesday, adding that detectives are trying to identify the source of the drugs.
