Man Charged With Hate Crime For Violent Union City Rampage
He is being held at Santa Rita Jail.
UNION CITY, CA — A man arrested in Union City last week for "an alleged violent rampage" is facing several felony charges, including a hate crime enhancement, the Alameda County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday.
Rohan Sharma, 32, is also facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, assault and elder abuse, among other things, according to prosecutors.
Sharma is alleged to have been driving a stolen water truck that he used, along with some kind of hand tool, to attack an elderly victim on Friday.

He also allegedly made "hateful statements based on the perceived characteristics of the victims' race or ethnicity," according to a news release from the District Attorney's Office.
Sharma also allegedly "rammed the truck into several buildings and parked cars while trying to escape and allegedly made several attempts to use the truck to strike Union City police officers and their vehicles after they responded to the scene," prosecutors said.

He was arraigned on multiple charges in Alameda County Superior Court in Oakland on Tuesday and is being held at Santa Rita Jail. A bail amount wasn't listed in jail records.
