Union City Flooding, Power Outages, Downed Trees

UNION CITY, CA — A fierce winter storm tore through Union City Tuesday with torrential rain causing street flooding, and powerful winds bringing down trees and power lines. Power was knocked out to thousands of customers and buildings were damaged, according to an alert from the City.

The largest power started at noon and impacted 6,436 customers is Union City and Fremont. City Hall in Union City was closed briefly during the outage, but power was restored in about an hour.

Union City Police Department and Alameda County Fire Department services were not affected.

"Adverse weather conditions have also caused several downed eucalyptus on private
property on Starling Drive," The City said in an alert. "Currently, several units in three buildings have been impacted and residents are being evacuated until the extent of damage can be
assessed. These residents are being evacuated to the Ruggieri Senior Center until
the situation is better understood."

The Ruggieri Senior Center will remain open all night for anyone seeking shelter.
