Union City's Annual Running Dead 5K Fun Run Returns For Some Scary Fun
Race participants should stay on their toes to avoid the zombies who will be out in full force looking for their next snack, organizers say.
UNION CITY, CA —Union City's annual Running Dead 5K Fun Run will return to the city for some scary fun this weekend so put on your running shoes and prepare to race across the city while dodging hungry zombies.
The event kicks off Sunday, Oct. 29 at City Hall, 34009 Alvarado-Niles Road in Union City, beginning at 9 a.m. sharp. Race check-in begins at 8 a.m.
The fun community event, which is broken down into several age/gender groups, is a great way to get out with family and friends while also celebrating Halloween, the city said about the event.

Award medals are handed out to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of each registration category, the city said.
"We will also have awesome prize raffles for participants after finishing the race, with a special raffle held for those who survive the Zombie challenge," the city said.

While race participants don't have to take part in the Zombie Challenge during the rain or shine event, all are welcome to opt in by picking up a pair of flags at the main event area.
"The Union City Youth Commission will be spread out at select locations along the race trail dressed as Zombies, and they will be out to get your flag," the city explained. "Those who finish the race with at least 1 flag left on their hip will be entered into a special raffle to win a cool Halloween themed prize."
A limited amount of race shirts will be available on the day of the race.
Pre-registration for the race is available until 4:30 p.m. Oct. 27, but walk-up registration is available beginning at 8 a.m. on race day, the city said
