Vice Media announced Thursday that it would cut 250 jobs globally in an effort to streamline its news division.

VENICE, CA — Vice Media, which has an office in Venice, announced Thursday that it would cut 250 jobs globally in an effort to streamline its news division and cancel its "Vice News Tonight" newscast.
In an internal memo from Vice leadership, co-CEOs Bruce Dizon and Hozefa Lokhandwala told employees the changes were being made to more closely align with how its audience engages with content most. Despite the announcement, the media group said Vice News is fundamental for its business.
"We are NOT Eexiting the news business, but we are changing the shape of VICE news to position the whole Company for long-term opportunities and improve how we deliver important, ground-breaking journalism well into the future," they said in the email.

"Vice News Tonight" has been on the air for almost seven years and has more than 1,000 episodes. It will air its last broadcast in May, the CEOs said. Along with the canceled programming, many staff members were affected by the cutbacks including Vice News editor-in-chief Michael Learmonth according to reports from Dateline.
Vice's layoffs are the most recent in the list of cutbacks in the news industry. BuzzFeed announced that it would shut down Buzzfeed News last week and ABC News also recently went through layoffs.
