Series Of Rain Storms To Drench Venice: Where To Find Sandbags

VENICE, CA — The first in a series of upcoming storms will bring rain and mountain snow Wednesday night into Thursday in Venice, according to the National Weather Service.

Following mid-week rain, dry weather is expected in most areas on Friday and Saturday. However, a second and likely much stronger storm will arrive on Sunday with periods of moderate to heavy rain through Tuesday, forecasters said.

"Unfortunately the front and heaviest rain will hit LA county during the morning rush hour," the weather service said.

The storm is expected to bring anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of rain with the possibility of 4 to 5 inches in foothills and mountains, forecasters predicted. Snow levels are expected to drop to 3,000 feet Thursday night through Sunday.

Los Angeles officials said those living in low-lying areas should prepare accordingly due to the area being prone to flooding. Venice residents were encouraged to prepare sandbags.

Sandbags are available to residents at the following locations:

• Fire Station 110 (4433 Admiralty Way)
• Rose Avenue Lot (300 Ocean Front Walk)
• Venice Avenue Lot (2300 Ocean Front Walk)
• Washington St. Lot (3100 Ocean Walk)

Residents are required to bring their IDs and can pick up a maximum of 10 bags. Those collecting sand were also urged to bring their own shovel or tools. Collecting sand from the beach is illegal.
