Venice Beach Under Ocean Bacteria Warning
The Los Angeles County Department of Health cautions residents before swimming or surfing along the coast.
VENICE, CA — The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health issued an ocean water warning due to increases in bacteria on the shores of many LA beaches — including Venice.
The department collects samples weekly from various sites year-round to test and monitor bacteria levels. On Thursday, the division found the ocean water 100 yards up and down the coast from the Windward storm drain at Venice City Beach exceeded state standards for bacterial levels.

- Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro
- Malaga Cove Creek at Palos Verdes Beach
- Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey
- 100 yards up and down the coast from the Santa Monica Pier
- 100 yards up and down the coast from the Pico-Kenter storm drain at Santa Monica Beach
The Department of Public Health discourages swimming in the water at the beach because it may cause illness.
The public may see warning signs displayed at the beach. To view a list of the locations visit the Public Health Department’s website. The list will be updated when conditions change and the water is found to be safe to swim, surf and play in again.
