WALNUT CREEK, CA — Walnut Creek Patch reader Linda Wooldridge submitted these photos taken a few weeks ago during a break in the rain.

"When we weren't focused on getting around the trail's muddiest patches, we were gazing at the stark oak trees silhouetted by billowing clouds and the orange glow of the setting sun," Wooldridge wrote in an email to Patch.
