WALNUT CREEK, CA — "Good genes and strong bones certainly played a role — and a mother who lived to 103," said Eleanor "Elly" Shaffer about reaching the age of 101. "But it's more than that. Don't let things drag you down; prioritize mental as much as physical health. Find the silver lining, gather the pieces and keep moving forward."
Shaffer, a resident of The Kensington in Walnut Creek, turned 101 years old Saturday and has pictures to prove it, thanks to the staff at the senior living community.
Born in 1922, Shaffer came to Walnut Creek in 2009 to live at The Kensington. She quickly became one of the facility's most cherished residents — and remains so today.
