Walnut Creek Police Chief Readies End Of 30-Year Career (patch.com) — Walnut Creek residents will soon see a change at the top of their police department as Chief Jamie Knox retires after leading the city through historically low crime and major modernization efforts. Captain Ryan Hibbs, a longtime Walnut Creek officer, will step into the chief’s role, pledging to strengthen community trust, support officers, and keep the city safe and welcoming.

2. Concerning Disease Exposure Reported in Walnut Creek--Did You Visit These Places? Bay Area Telegraph (bayareatelegraph.com) — Health officials warn that a confirmed measles case may have exposed people at several Walnut Creek businesses and the Kaiser ER between December 17 and 24, and urge anyone who visited those locations to check their vaccination status and watch for symptoms through mid-January. Measles is highly contagious, so residents—especially unvaccinated, pregnant, immunocompromised people and infants—are advised to call ahead before seeking care and consult Contra Costa Health for detailed guidance.

3. Eye on the Hills: La Russa's new animal rescue group to hold Jan. 25 gala (mercurynews.com) — Tony La Russa’s new nonprofit, La Russa Rescue Champions, is kicking off with a star-studded Jan. 25 gala at Walnut Creek’s Lesher Center, supporting grassroots animal rescues. The event features big-name musicians, comedians, and former A’s players, while a separate Glowfari light show at the Oakland Zoo continues drawing East Bay families through Jan. 25.

4. BART fares, bridge tolls set to rise Jan. 1 (mercurynews.com) — If you park or ride BART at Walnut Creek, expect higher costs starting January 1, with daily and monthly parking rates jumping alongside a 6.2% systemwide fare increase. The hikes are part of BART’s effort to close a looming budget gap and avoid major service cuts, while Bay Area bridge tolls will also rise by 50 cents for most drivers.
