Fatal Crash Into Pole Closes Walnut Creek Roadway, Police Say
One person died and another was injured in the early-morning collision, police said.

WALNUT CREEK, CA — One person died and another person was injured when a car hit a power pole early Thursday in Walnut Creek, police said.
The collision was reported by a 911 caller at 1:07 a.m.; the caller said a vehicle collided with a pole on Ygnacio Valley Road between Civic Drive and North Broadway.
Officers responded and found that the driver was ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The passenger suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The name of the deceased was not released Thursday morning as investigators were still attempting to notify the family.

PG&E responded and quickly restored power, but police said the roadway was expected to remain closed for most of Thursday.
