Final Approval Of Smoking Ban Scheduled For Tuesday Evening

The Walnut Creek City Council will also hear results of a public opinion survey

The Walnut Creek City Council is scheduled to give final approval to a anti-smoking ordinance at its meeting on Tuesday night.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 1666 N. Main St.

The ordinance was approved in mid-September. On Tuesday night, the council is expected to approve the legally required second reading of the ordinance.

The new law will ban smoking throughout downtown as well as in apartments, condominiums, public places and within 25 feet of doors and windows.

The council will also hear the results from a community survey to determine the public's opinion on city services and finances.

The poll was done by EMC Research as part of the city's fiscal sustainability work as it prepares to work on a 2014-2016 budget.
