Flooding? Here's Where County Sandbags Are Available

The rain is creating big problems for homes and buildings in Contra Costa County. Shoring up the leaks with bags could help.

If you’re in need of sandbags, here’s a roundup of where the bags can be found throughout Contra Costa County.

Walnut Creek-

Sand and sandbags are available to Walnut Creek residents free of charge at the following locations (Residents need to bring their own shovels):

  • Lancaster Rd/Orchard Ln
  • Howe Homestead Park parking lot
  • Larkey Park parking lot
  • Heather Farm Park Community Center parking lot (North end)
  • Rudgear Park parking lot. (New location!)

Pleasant Hill-

Call 671-4646 to check sandbags availability before going to the Center. No sandbags are available after 4 p.m.

  • City Hall parking lot (100 Gregory Lane at Trelany Road – behind Michael’s)
  • Community Center parking lot (320 Civic Drive – behind the Police Department)

Concord-

  • Free, self-filled sandbags (up to 25) available for residents at the Corp. Yard, 1455 Gasoline Alley. Available 24/7. 671-3383

Also:

  • 3701 Treat Boulevard.
  • 3119 Grant Street.

Martinez-

The City of Martinez has designated the following four (4) locations for the stockpiling of sand, and one (1) location with sand bags only for use by residents during heavy rains and or flooding. If you have any questions you may call the Public Works Maintenance Yard at 372-3580, M-F 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

  • Nancy Boyd Park - Located on Pleasant Hill Rd E & Church St
  • F Street- Located at the west end of F Street off of Alhambra Avenue, at the beginning of the Park District trail, just past Alhambra High School.
  • Ferry & Allen Streets- Located at the comer of Ferry & Allen Streets by the Kiwanis Club.
  • Rankin Park- Located at the end of Buckley Street, upper parking lot.
  • Sand Bags are located at City Hall @ 525 Henrietta Street.

Orinda/Moraga-

No Limit, Do It Yourself. 925-258-4599

  • Station #43-20 Via Las Cruces,
  • Station #44- 295 Orchard Road

Lafayette-

No Charge for 20 bags - after that $5.00 per bag. Contact for city: (925) 934-3908.

  • Public Works Dept Corp Yard 3001 Camino Diablo
  • Mt. Diablo Blvd @ Risa Road

Pinole-

No Sand Limit. Bring own bags, ties, & tools. Sand available year round. Public Works 510-724-8947.

  • City Parking Lot – 1281 Plum Street
