Lindsay Wildlife Experience, of Walnut Creek, announced the appointment of James Madden as its new Director of Education.

From Lindsay Wildlife Experience: Lindsay Wildlife Experience announced the appointment of James Madden as its new Director of Education. Madden brings more than 10 years of ecological and science education experience, most recently as a trainer and educator at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco.

A former professor, AmeriCorps member, and Peace Corps volunteer, Madden is ready to bring his wealth of environmental knowledge to running Lindsay’s education program and redesigning its curriculum. Lindsay serves nearly 100,000 people each year through its education programs, which range from school field trips, classes held onsite, outreaches at schools all over the Bay Area and visits to Lindsay’s world-class

exhibit hall.

“I chose Lindsay because I truly appreciate the mission, ‘connecting people with wildlife to inspire responsibility and respect for the world we share,’ and for the opportunities in educational programming with the community,” Madden said. “Plus, the great gray owl is incredible!”

Madden is key to a new 21st century focus on science and conservation education at Lindsay. “James is an enthusiastic science educator who is deeply committed to igniting curiosity and inspiring an indelible connection to the natural world through exciting, visionary educational programs,” said Executive Director Cheryl McCormick, Ph.D. “We are fortunate to welcome James to Lindsay as the primary strategist behind reimaging our education programs that elevate Lindsay to an extraordinary level of mission impact.”

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Madden was the first in his family to graduate college, earning his bachelor’s in marine biology from Florida Institute of Technology, and two years later getting a master’s in ecology and conservation biology.

An active learner, as well as teacher, he has on the ground animal experience researching wetland fish, bottlenose dolphins, and sea turtles. And after his time in the Peace Corp he worked in South American for the Ceiba Foundation, running a nature reserve. Madden will start at Lindsay Wildlife on May 8.
