East Bay pets of the week for Dec. 19 (eastbaytimes.com) — Walnut Creek animal lovers can meet adoptable cats at Community Concern for Cats’ weekend events at Pet Food Express and their Newell Avenue location, where Mr Petey is waiting for a home. The piece also spotlights adoptable dogs and cats from East Bay SPCA, Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter, and Milo Point Richmond, with details on how to visit each.
   

2. Share the Spirit: Trinity Center in Walnut Creek was ‘light at the end of the tunnel' for homeless couple (mercurynews.com) — A Walnut Creek nonprofit, Trinity Center, is helping homeless residents like Taryn and Tyrone move from living in their SUV to a stable apartment and jobs. The center offers meals, clothing, case management, and housing support, and a Share the Spirit campaign now seeks $30,000 in donations to expand its workforce development and housing assistance programs.
   

3. Rossmoor Restaurant Closing -- Creekside Grill to Shut Down for Renovations, New Operator Named Bay Area Telegraph (bayareatelegraph.com) — Residents of Rossmoor in Walnut Creek should prepare for the Creekside Grill to close temporarily in 2026 for several weeks of renovations funded by up to $625,000 in upgrades. When it reopens, longtime operator Stan Gedeon will be replaced by restaurateur Rodney Worth, known for The Little Pear in Walnut Creek and several other popular East Bay restaurants.
   

4. BART Fares, Parking Rates To Increase Soon (patch.com) — If you park at the Walnut Creek BART station, expect your daily parking fee to jump by about 30% starting Jan. 1, as part of a systemwide increase. BART fares will also rise 6.2%, adding roughly 30 cents to the average trip, as the agency tries to close a major budget gap and keep trains running.
   

5. Rockies sign 26-year old infielder as free agent from Angels (sportingnews.com) — A former Walnut Creek resident, infielder Chad Stevens, has signed a minor-league free agent deal with the Colorado Rockies after brief time in the majors with the Angels. The versatile 26-year-old has strong Triple-A numbers and will compete in spring training for a possible MLB roster spot.
