The Week Ahead: Parking Meters, Broadway Plaza, Mustache Bash
Some of the meetings and events happening in Walnut Creek this week

On Monday morning, a program will be presented on animals that live primarily in the water.
"Mini-Monday: Home In The Water" is from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lindsay Wildlife Museum, 1931 First Ave.
The session is geared for children 2 to 5 years old. A pond turtle and a salamander will be among the animals showcased.
On Monday evening, the Walnut Creek School District board of education will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the district offices, 960 Ygnacio Valley Road.
On the agenda is a public hearing on the district's contract proposals to employee groups as well as approval of the 2013-14 first interim report from the superintendent.
On Tuesday evening, the City Council will hold a special meeting and its regularly scheduled meeting.
The special meeting begins at 5:15 p.m. at City Hall, 1666 N. Main St.
On the agenda is a study session on a general plan amendment request by Pulte Homes for an 81-unit development on the 8-acre site on Tice Valley Boulevard formerly occupied by the Jewish Community Center.
Afterward, the council will meet again at 7 p.m.
On that agenda is final reading of the city's anti-smoking ordinance as well as a revised parking management plan. That plan includes changes in days and hours of parking meter enforcement and a demand-based model where parking rates are different during different times of the day.
On Wednesday evening, a fundraiser centered on mustaches will be held.
The festivities for the Mustache Bash begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Pyramid Alehouse, 1410 Locust St.
Pints for Prostates is a co-sponsor of the event. A barbershop quartet and a shaving contest will be among the activities.
On Thursday evening, the Planning Commission will hold a special meeting.
The session begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 1666 N. Main St.
On the agenda is the redevelopment plan for the eastern sector of the Broadway Plaza shopping center. This item was scheduled on last week's agenda, but there wasn't a quorum of commission members, so it was rescheduled for this week.
On Friday evening, a new group will hold an informational meeting on reviving the showing of artistic films in the area.
The Mountain Shadow Film Society gathering begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Oak View room of the downtown Walnut Creek Library.
The group formed in response to the demolition in May of the CineArts theater in Pleasant Hill.
