Walnut Creek Police Department Names New Captain

Lt. Ryan Hibbs has been promoted to serve on Walnut Creek police Chief Jamie Knox's executive team as a police captain.

WALNUT CREEK, CA — Walnut Creek police Chief Jamie Knox has appointed Lt. Ryan Hibbs as the next police captain at the Walnut Creek Police Department.

Hibbs is a 21-year veteran of law enforcement who began his career at the Susanville Police Department before making a lateral move to the Napa Police Department. Since joining the Walnut Creek Police Department in 2009, he has held numerous assignments including as a patrol officer, defensive tactics instructor and field training officer. He was assigned to the Community and Downtown Policing Team and has been a member of the Crime Scene Investigations Team.

Hibbs brings more than eight years of supervisory and management experience to this position, having most recently served as a lieutenant watch commander of the Patrol Bureau and as manager of the department's Field Training Officer Program.

Hibbs has served as a member of the Rossmoor Policing Enhancement Committee and is a member of the department’s social media team.

"Ryan brings a breadth of increasingly responsible police experience with him to this position, and he will be a welcome addition to my executive team," Knox said.

Hibbs earned an associate's degree in administration of justice and a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He is a graduate of the Drucker Executive Leadership Institute at Claremont Graduate University and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in negotiations, conflict resolution and peacebuilding.

The promotion is effective Oct. 15.
