Watch: Giant Mural Is Walnut Creek's Newest Public Art
The mural "Where's Walnut Creek" is artist Nigel Sussman's take on "Where's Waldo."
WALNUT CREEK, CA — City officials expect the newest addition to the Walnut Creek Public Art Program and Bedford Gallery to be a huge hit.
Muralist/artist Nigel Sussman, a Berkeley resident, created a larger-than-life, "Where's Waldo"-inspired mural on an exterior wall of the Tice Valley Community Gym.
"It is a big stylized map of the region depicting the whole city and up to Mount Diablo and the surrounding area," Sussman said in a video introducing his work. "I tried to capture the character in a fun and whimsical way. It is important to me that it fits in a city's environment in a natural way rather than me imposing my vision."

Sussman explains that the style of art used by Martin Handford in the "Where's Waldo" series is an example of "Wimmelbilderbuch" drawings, originally popularized by German artists.
The mural titled "Where's Walnut Creek"can be found at 2055 Tice Valley Blvd.
