2 Arrested In Connection With Watsonville Shooting
BREAKING: The victim, a 24-year-old Watsonville resident, went to the hospital with a gunshot wound that was not life threatening.

WATSONVILLE, CA — Police in Watsonville have arrested two people in connection with a shooting that sent one person to the hospital Friday. Juan Luis Garcia Nava, 25, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm, obstruction of a police officer, illegal possession of ammunition, altering a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon while in a gang, carrying a loaded firearm, destroying or concealing evidence, battery on a peace officer and on street gang enhancements.
Rogelio Alvarez Castillo, 26, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm, evading a police officer, illegal possession of ammunition, altering a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon while in a gang, carrying a loaded firearm, destroying or concealing evidence, making threats to a peace officer and on gang enhancements.
Officers with the Watsonville Police Department responded Friday at 5:13 p.m. to the 100 block of West First Street on a report of a drive-by shooting. The victim, a 24-year-old Watsonville resident, had been
transported by private party to the hospital with a gunshot wound that was not life threatening, police said.

Officers discovered a crime scene indicating a shooting had taken place and obtained information from witnesses identifying a white older truck as the suspect vehicle and two men as the suspects. A short time later, an officer located two men in a white older pickup truck that was similar to the suspect vehicle described by witnesses, police said.
Officers tried to pull the vehicle over, but the truck fled north on Main Street and onto northbound state Highway 1. Police said the suspects were seen throwing evidence out of the truck's window during the pursuit.

The pursuit ended at a dead-end on Tierra Altra Drive, where the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers, with the help of Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office deputies and Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force officers, were able to apprehend the two suspects, police said.
