2 Die In Motorcycle Crash Near Watsonville

The man and his passenger were ejected from the motorcycle this weekend.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — A man and woman from Hollister died this weekend when their motorcycle crashed on state Highway 152 near Watsonville, California Highway Patrol officials said Tuesday.

CHP officers responded shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday to the crash reported on the highway in an area east of Carlton Road.

A 26-year-old man driving a large 2020 Ford F-550 truck entered westbound traffic from a private driveway as a 43-year-old man driving a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle with a 41-year-old woman as a passenger were using the eastbound lane to pass other vehicles in the westbound lane, according to the CHP.

The motorcyclist didn't immediately notice the Ford entering traffic and tried to avoid the truck, overturning the bike and ejecting both him and his passenger. He was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was taken to Watsonville Community Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The names of the pair were not immediately available from the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office.
