MidPen Housing Secures $132.8 Million in Grants for Three Central California Affordable Housing Developments (multifamilyaffordablehousing.com) — Watsonville is set to gain 79 new affordable homes above a revamped regional bus station, thanks to a $39 million state grant for the Watsonville Metro project. The joint effort by MidPen Housing, Santa Cruz Metro and the City of Watsonville is part of a larger $132.8 million package supporting transit-oriented affordable housing in San José, Alameda and Watsonville.

PVUSD Trustees to revisit teacher layoff vote (pajaronian.com) — PVUSD trustees will hold a special meeting Monday to reconsider their controversial vote to cut about 80 teaching positions, a move taken last week after the board cleared the Watsonville City Chambers of the public. Many residents say they were denied a chance to speak, and at least one trustee who supported the layoffs has now requested the board revisit the decision.

Wildcatz's boys soccer team rallies for draw against rival Mariners (santacruzsentinel.com) — Watsonville High’s boys soccer team salvaged a 1-1 home draw against rival Aptos thanks to a late header by senior Anthony Guido, keeping the Wildcatz unbeaten. Sandbag locations for the Central Coast (ksbw.com) — Watsonville residents can pick up free sand and bags at the CalFire Corralitos Station on Eureka Canyon Road and the Public Works Wilson Yard on Grimmer Road as two major storms approach the Central Coast. The guide also lists many other sand and sandbag locations across Santa Cruz and Monterey counties, but urges everyone to call ahead to confirm availability.
