Confused Intruder Threatens Residents With Knife

Three people, including a child, were in the house.

A 21-year-old Watsonville man armed with a knife broke into the wrong apartment in a misguided search for a woman Thursday evening, Watsonville police reported.

The man, Victor Valencia, reportedly walked in through the open front door of a Still Breeze Lane home, threatened the residents and asked for a woman who didn't live there, police said.

An adult and child in the apartment fled to a back bedroom to hide while a third person confronted Valencia, who was wielding a knife. That person was able to convince Valencia to wait outside the apartment, police said.

Police were called around 8 p.m. Valencia tried to flee when officers arrived but was apprehended and arrested on suspicion of brandishing a weapon, burglary, false imprisonment and resisting arrest, and was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.
