Girl, 12, Says Stranger Offered Her a Ride—Twice

The incident happened Monday morning in rural Watsonville.

A man offered a 12-year-old girl a ride on Monday morning, then returned moments after being declined to ask her again if she would like to get in his pickup, the Sheriff's Office reported Friday. 

Deputies are searching for the driver but have yet to identify him.

The girl was walking on Buena Vista Drive near Calabasas Road around 9:40 a.m. when a man driving a black truck pulled alongside her and offered her a ride, according to the Sheriff's Office.

She said no and the truck pulled away, only to turn around and return to the pre-teen. The man then asked the girl a second time if she would like a ride, deputies said.

The girl reported the incident immediately. The man was 20 to 30 years old and dark-skinned with curly, short, dark hair. The truck was black.
