Watsonville teen Zac Clayman was honored today by the CHP with a Citizen's Commendation for his bravery in saving a man's life.

APTOS - Watsonville teenager Zac Clayman was honored today in Aptos by the California Highway Patrol and the Aptos Fire Department with a Citizen’s Commendation for his bravery.

The 17-year-old Clayman’s quick thinking probably saved a man’s life in December.

CHP officials said on Dec. 5 Clayman was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his aunt traveling on Larkin Valley Road in the area of White Road when he noticed a white object off the side of the road down a steep embankment.

According to CHP officials, Clayman signaled his aunt to pull over so he could check it out.

Clayman then ran back up the road and down the embankment to a white truck that had collided with a tree, according to the timespublishinggroup. Clayman saw a man seated in the vehicle with major injuries.

After speaking with the trapped driver, notified his aunt to contact emergency personnel. The California Highway Patrol believe Clayman’s quick thinking and response likely saved the crash victim’s life.

Emergency personnel ultimately arrived and were able to extract the victim and provide aid.

Today’s ceremony was held at the CHP office in Aptos.
