Kayaker Rescued From Lake Near Watsonville, Fire Officials Say

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — A kayaker was rescued Sunday afternoon from a lake near Watsonville after he apparently fell in, according to Cal Fire officials. At 11:57 a.m., Cal Fire officials received a request for a rescue at College Lake, located near Minto Road in the unincorporated community of Interlaken in Santa Cruz County, a Cal Fire dispatcher said.

There, a Cal Fire rescuer found the victim, a man in his 20s, holding onto a pole in the water, according to the dispatcher. Several other fire crews responded and assisted with the rescue, including firefighters from the Pajaro Valley Fire Protection District, the Watsonville Fire Department and the Aptos-La Selva Fire Protection District.

The victim was not seriously injured and was taken to a hospital by a friend, the dispatcher said.
