MacAbee Beach Reopened To Public After Sewage Spill

Breaking: The county closed the beach last Tuesday.

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — Monterey County officials have reopened MacAbee Beach in Monterey after a sewage spill had recently closed it. The county closed the beach last Tuesday and reopened it back to the public on Saturday afternoon. Samples taken on Friday revealed bacteria levels had lowered to a point at which it is now safe for recreational contact.

The county warns that contact with water contaminated with sewage may cause people to suffer from gastroenteritis and other water-borne illnesses. For more information on the status of the beach and other beaches on the Monterey Peninsula, people can visit www.mtyhd.org/beaches or call (800) 347-6363.
