WATSONVILLE, CA — A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of felony evading after he led Watsonville police on a pursuit Tuesday afternoon, police said. Police said they attempted to pull over an SUV for equipment violations and the driver, later identified as Arnulfo Anaya, initially pulled over in the area of Lee Road. Anaya allegedly then sped away immediately afterward.
Police followed him to state Highway 1, where they called off the chase when he allegedly began driving on the wrong side of the road. The driver then made a U-turn and started driving toward the officers, according to police. Officers then pursued him into a rural field in the area of Jensen and Bluff roads in unincorporated Monterey County.
Anaya and his passenger jumped out of the SUV and began running, but both men were quickly detained, according to police. Anaya was arrested and booked into Santa Cruz County Jail and his passenger was questioned and released, according to police.
