Man Suspected Of Possessing Assault Rifle Arrested In Watsonville

Abraham Rosas, 25, was stopped for alleged speeding and loud exhaust by an officer in Watsonville.

WATSONVILLE, CA — A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an assault rifle in Watsonville Thursday, police said. Abraham Rosas was stopped for alleged speeding and loud exhaust by an officer in the vicinity of Riverside Drive and Main Street around 11:15 a.m., police said.

During the traffic stop, the officer allegedly detected a strong odor of marijuana, according to police. The officer searched the vehicle and found a short-barrel assault rifle in a backpack along with a loaded
high-capacity magazine, police said.

Rosas was arrested on suspicion of possession of an assault weapon and a high-capacity magazine and taken to the Santa Cruz County Jail, according to police. Information on the suspect's place of residence was not available.
