Monterey County Reports Its First Flu Death Of 2020
State officials have warned that flu hospitalization rates are on the rise this year. California saw 54 flu deaths last year.
MONTEREY COUNTY, CA —Another flu death was reported in Monterey County on Tuesday night, bringing the total this season to three in the county and at least 55
statewide.
Flu season had an earlier start than usual in 2019 and deaths have
occurred faster than last year.
As of Dec. 28, the most recent data released by the state
Department of Public Health, there had been 54 flu deaths in California.
Through the same period a year ago, there had been 42.

In Monterey County, Tuesday's death is the first of the new year.
State officials warn that there have been above-expected levels of
hospitalization this year. The health department recommends everyone six
months and older get a flu vaccine.
Anyone 65 years old and older or with chronic conditions is
considered particularly at risk for flu-related complications, state
officials said.
