New City Manager Could Be Appointed Tuesday In Watsonville

The search began at the beginning of the year and included a community survey and several public meetings.

WATSONVILLE, CA — Tuesday Watsonville City Council members will consider appointing Rene Mendez as the new City Manager for the City of Watsonville during their regular Council Meeting.

The executive search conducted by Peckham and McKenney to hire a new City Manager began at the start of the year and included a community survey and several public meetings to give residents the opportunity to be a part of the hiring process.

Mendez has three decades of experience in state, county, and city government and has spent the last 17 years serving the community of Gonzales as the City Manager. Mendez, a first-generation Mexican American, holds a master’s degree in public policy from Duke University and has broad experience in working in and for demographically and geographically diverse communities.

The City Council will consider his appointment and contract approval during the Tuesday, April 12 City Council meeting.
