Officials ID Man Killed In Watsonville Shooting
Police arrested Miguel Castaneda, a 39-year-old Santa Cruz resident, at the scene of the shooting.

WATSONVILLE, CA — A 36-year-old Santa Cruz man died in a shooting on Friday in the Watsonville area and the suspect was arrested the same day, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's deputies and Watsonville police responded to the shooting at 11:38 a.m. Friday on state Highway 129 and Industrial Road on the edge of Watsonville's city limits.
The victim of the shooting, Victor Lopez, was taken to a trauma center and died on Saturday, sheriff's officials. Police detained Miguel Castaneda, a 39-year-old Santa Cruz resident, at the scene of the shooting. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail and his bail is set at $750,000.
Authorities said they recovered a gun at the scene and they are not seeking any additional suspects. The two men knew each other and the shooting likely happened because of a disagreement, according to the
sheriff's office.
