Suspect, 22, Shot After Allegedly Charging Officers: WPD

Officers responded to the area of Ninth Street after receiving 911 calls about a man with two knives, police said.

WATSONVILLE, CA — A 22-year-old suspect was shot and injured by a police officer this morning, Watsonville police reported. The shooting happened on Main Street between Clifford Drive and Ohlone Parkway at about 10 a.m.

Police said officers responded to the area of Ninth Street after receiving 911 calls about a man with two knives. Police said officers found the man less than 30 minutes later in the area of Clifford Drive and Ohlone Parkway.

The man was running in and out of traffic on Main Street, acting erratically, and allegedly not listening to officers' orders. Police said they believe the man was under the influence of drugs. Officer Matt Williams shot the suspect after he allegedly charged at Williams, according to police, who said two knives were located at the scene. No officers were injured.

The suspect is currently at a hospital and police spokeswoman Michelle Pulido said officers will not be releasing the suspect's name or his condition. The roadway was closed for about five hours and reopened at 4:17 p.m.
