Police Looking For Suspect Who Led Officers On Wild Pursuit

Police said the suspect threw firearms out of a car window during the chase.

WATSONVILLE, CA — Watsonville police are seeking the public's help in locating a suspect who threw firearms out of a car window during a vehicle pursuit Friday night. At 8 p.m., an officer tried to pull over a 1993 Lexus sedan that was speeding west on West Beach Street near Ohlone Parkway, police said.

The officer caught up to the Lexus when it was stopped at a red light at West Beach Street and Lee Road. That's where the Lexus was straddling both the eastbound and westbound lanes, police said. When the light turned green, the Lexus turned onto southbound Lee Road and head toward Riverside Drive. The driver slowed down momentarily, but then sped off and entered the southbound on-ramp of state Highway 1, police
said.

The vehicle drove erratically and many items were thrown from the vehicle onto the highway, including a handgun and a short-barreled assault rifle, police said. Police later recovered both firearms. When speeds reached more than 100 mph on Highway 1 at Salinas Road, the officer stopped pursuing the suspect out of concern for public safety.
