Police: Plumber Gets Stabbed in the Back at Apt. Complex

Victim and suspect did not know one another and the attack appeared to have been unprovoked, according to police.

Watsonville Police are on the hunt for a Hispanic man in his 20s who is accused of stabbing a plumber in the back at the Clifford Manor apartment complex Monday afternoon.

Police were called to the complex at 224 Clifford Ave. at around 2:15 p.m. Monday on a report of a stabbing, Sgt. Brian Ridgway said. When they arrived, police found a 26-year-old Hispanic man suffering from a single stab wound to his back. The man was taken to Watsonville Community Hospital for his injury, which was not considered life threatening.

Police determined that the victim works at a local plumbing company that was doing repair work at the complex. The victim was outside in a common area when the suspect walked up to the victim, said just a few words and stabbed him in the back. The victim immediately realized he had been stabbed in the back and went to his coworkers on site for help. The suspect fled on foot and was last seen heading north in the complex.

Ridgway said the suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his mid 20s who is approximately 5-feet, 7-inches tall and 180 pounds with a dark complexion and dark hair. He was wearing a black shirt and a blue red and white hat.

Ridgway said the suspect and the victim did not know one another and that the attack appeared to be unprovoked.

Police searched the area but were unable to find the suspect. Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to call the Watsonville Police Department Crime Tip line at 728-3544 or the Watsonville Police Department Investigation Bureau at 768-3352
