Man Convicted Of Fatally Stabbing Watsonville Man Sentenced To Prison
BREAKING: David Derrington was fatally stabbed by his own knife in 2016.

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — A Salinas man was sentenced to 31 years to life for the first-degree murder of his wife's ex-husband, Monterey County prosecutors said Tuesday. Alexander Winn, 46, received the sentence for killing 50-year-old Watsonville resident David Derrington on Feb. 21, 2016 with Derrington's own knife.
Prosecutors said that in mid-2015, Derrington started trying to evict Winn and his ex-wife from the home Derrington owned in north Monterey County. Derrington was trying to evict the two because they had defaulted on an agreement to buy the home, according to prosecutors. The couple, however, refused to move out.
On Feb. 9, 2016, after getting a court order, Derrington along with sheriff's deputies forced Winn and Traci Derrington-Winn out. Witnesses testified at the trial that before and on the day of the eviction Winn said numerous times that he was going to kill Derrington.

On Feb. 21, Winn and Derrington were at the home dealing with property left inside when Winn stabbed Derrington 22 times. Prosecutors said nine wounds penetrated Derrington's lungs. The weapon was a 9-inch military-style knife that Derrington had left in the home after his divorce, according to prosecutors.
