Salinas Man Struck, Killed On Hwy. 1 Near Watsonville
The man was struck by a Prius that was merging onto the highway, south of Mar Monte Avenue.
WATSONVILLE, CA — A 28-year-old Salinas man was hit and killed by a car while walking on southbound state Highway 1 north of Watsonville Monday night, the California Highway Patrol reported.
A 40-year-old Gilroy man was driving a 2012 Toyota Prius and merging onto the highway south of Mar Monte Avenue when he struck the pedestrian at 9:35 p.m. Paramedics responded to the scene and began performing CPR, but the man died a short time later.
The Santa Cruz County coroner's office will identify him once his family is notified. The CHP is still investigating the cause of the crash, but said neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be involved.
