Serious Injuries Reported In Big Rig Rollover Near Watsonville

The CHP is still investigating the crash and said neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be factors.

WATSONVILLE, CA — A 65-year-old man was hospitalized after a rollover crash involving his semi-truck trailer that hit an overhanging highway sign near Watsonville on Wednesday night.

The man was driving a 2012 Freightliner with a trailer south on state Highway 1 north of Buena Vista Drive at 10:44 p.m. when the trailer and its bed lifted for an unknown reason and crashed into the sign, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The truck overturned as a result, and the driver was transported by ambulance to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas with major injuries.
