Stillwater Cove Beach Advisory Lifted

BREAKING: The department had issued an advisory for the beach on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m.

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA — Monterey County health officials announced today that an advisory for Stillwater Cove at Pebble Beach has been lifted after follow-up samples from the beach show it is now safe for recreational use. The department had issued an advisory for the beach on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. after high bacteria levels were found in samples taken from the beach on Monday.

When the advisory was in effect, signs were posted alerting the public of an increased risk of illness associated with water contact. State codes require that beaches must meet bacterial standards if they are visited by more than 50,000 people annually or are located next to a storm drain that flows during the summer.

There are various reasons for where the excessive bacteria can come from, such as bacteria from marine life, rainfall runoff, storm drains and other human activity, county officials said.
