Suspect Who Escaped Marina Police After 100 MPH Chase Surrenders
Marina police say a suspect that escaped on foot Wednesday night after leading them on a 100 mph car chase has turned himself in.
MARINA - Marina police said a suspect that escaped on foot Wednesday night after leading them on a 100 mph car chase has turned himself into authorities.
Police said Thursday 19-year-old Michael Joseph Robertson turned himself in to police and was booked by Marina officers.
Marina police said Wednesday night, May 18, Marina police officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation about 11:00 p.m.

During the stop, police claim the officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
The officer attempted to have the driver - later identified as Robertson - step out of the vehicle, and according to police, the driver became argumentative.

Robertson fled suddenly at a high rate of speed. Police say a vehicle pursuit was initiated on Inter-garrison Road towards the East Garrison housing area.
During the pursuit, officers say the suspect vehicle reached speeds exceeding 100 MPH, and eventually crashed through a wooden and chain link fence in the East Garrison Housing area located at East Garrison and Sherman Avenue.
Robertson was able to flee on foot and escape into the construction site. Marina police say efforts to locate the suspect at the time were unsuccessful.
According to Marina police, a search of the abandoned vehicle revealed Robertson was in possession of several ounces of marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms, methamphetamine and cocaine for the purposes of sales and distribution.
Police say the Robertson also possessed a Taser-type device.
Robertson, a Salinas resident, was booked for a felony evading charge related to the pursuit in addition to charges of possession of various controlled substances for the purpose of sales and distribution.
