Watsonville Man Accused of Weapons-Related Crimes

Authorities said the sheriff's office Gang Enforcement Team served a search warrant at the Watsonville man's home.

SANTA CRUZ CONTY, CA — Deputies arrested a Watsonville man Thursday in connection with
several weapons-related crimes. Jesus Chavez, 31, was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in
possession of a firearm, possession of an illegal assault weapon, illegal possession of ammunition, criminal storage of a firearm and possession of high capacity magazines, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office.

On Thursday at 6:45 p.m. deputies from the sheriff's office Gang Enforcement Team served a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Roache Road in Watsonville. The search warrant was to search for firearms and stolen vehicles.

During the search, deputies found an illegal short-barreled AR 15 rifle, three handguns, high-capacity magazines, ammunition and several stolen vehicles, according to the sheriff's office.

Following the search, Chavez was arrested and booked into the Santa Cruz County jail.
